If you are planning to study abroad in South Korea or basically just being curious about how does international student life in this beautiful country like, read on this interview to explore unique experiences that an international student can get while studying in Daejeon, South Korea.

The interview was conducted with Nguyen Huyen Phuong coming from Vietnam and currently studying for a Master's Degree in Marketing Analytics at SolBridge International School of Business, Daejeon.

1. Tell us about yourself.

Hi everyone, I am Huyen Phuong. I graduated Bachelor's Degree in International Communication from the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam. Before coming to SolBridge, I also had 3 years working at Digital Banking Center, Tien Phong Bank. I am an open-minded and positive person. I love traveling which allows me to explore and study new things. Besides, I am a fan of photography, video editing, and handcraft objects. That's why I am also running my own YouTube channel named "Plan With Prey", where I can share my experience and what I know to others.

2. Why did you choose to study abroad, specifically in Daejeon? What do you like most about studying here?

After 3 years working in the bank industry, I realized that data analytics are undoubtedly important in the near future. As mentioned I love to experience new things, I started to search for international universities that provide data analytics major. Actually, because this is a new major, I did not have a lot of choices. Among potential universities, I decided to choose Solbridge because it had several advantages like scholarship, international environment, and full English teaching program. In addition, I am personally interested in Korean culture, so that decision was made.

3. Tell us about your most memorable time at Solbridge International School.

To be honest, during my life in the university in Vietnam, I never attend any business competition as my major is International Communication. However, I still always have a certain interest in business stuff. Therefore, as soon as I got information about the start-up competition in Solbridge, I decided to participate as an opportunity to challenge myself. Surprisingly, my team got 1st place. At first, my aim actually was just to challenge myself and learn from international friends, so the result was completely shocked me.

4. What were the unique experiences you had when living in Daejeon?

After coming to South Korea, there are two experiences that I got for the first time. First, playing in snow. I know that for many people, snow is a normal thing. However, I bet for those who only can see snow on the screen like me, everyone will get excited when they actually see it in real life.

Another special experience I had is hiking. Generally, hiking is not a popular activity in Vietnam. In contrast, I did not know that it is one of the most favorite outdoor activities of Korean. So, for the first time, I tried it and the experience became more special and memorable as I went to Jangtaesan with my lovely friends. Because it was my first time to tried mountain hiking, I honestly got exhausted but when I got to the top, it worths more than ever.

5. A few messages to the students who are planning to study abroad in South Korea?

I would advise you to get familiar with the language before you come here! Not many people can speak English that well so it might be difficult to find your way around if you do not know the basics. Life in Korea has many similarities with Vietnam, but of course, every country has its own culture, so you also should learn about culture as much as you can. If you do it then you have chances to make friends with Korean easily. Lastly, be confident in your decision and try to accomplish your goals, I am sure one day you will be successful.

Thank you so much for participating in the interview and wish you the best of luck in the future!!
