The Ensemble Hall at Daejeon Art & Culture Complex

The Daejeon Art & Culture Complex is home to local art and culture, featuring the Daejeon Culture & Arts Center, the Daejeon Museum of Art and the Ungno Lee Museum of Art. It is located in the Dunsan Amusement Park, Mannyeon-dong Seo-gu. It is an imposing building decorated with traditional grandiose Korean roofs and graceful corners of eaves. It is a multi-performance venue that accommodates every genre of performance with a stage of 300 performers and an orchestra box with seating for 120. It consists of an Art Hall that accommodates large-scale performances like operas, ballets, and musicals; an Ensemble Hall for plays, dancing, chamber orchestras, solo recitals, an outdoor theater equipped with 1000 seats; and a convention hall that provides four foreign language services. Performers at the Centr include Daejeon City Choirs, Daejeon City Orchestra, Daejeon City Dance Company, and Daejeon Youth Choirs.

Change of background color of four seasons

If Daejeon’s past center of culture and art, the Uineungjeongi Cultural Street found at the original city center is the spirit of Daejeon, Daejeon Art & Culture Complex near Mannyun-dong, Seo-gu, Daejeon is a substitute where new cultural desire is sprouting. The consumers of art and culture are not satisfied with a single space anymore. They want more diverse events and pleasure in the same space.
They not only want to appreciate artwork, but want satisfaction of all five senses. From now on, the EXPO Nammun (South Gate) square will be known as Daejeon’s complex art and culture space.
Starting with the opening of Daejeon Museum of Art in April, 1998, Pyungsong Youth Culture Center (June, 1997), Daejeon Art & Culture Complex (Oct. 1st, 2003), Goam Ungno Lee Museum of Art (May, 2007) were placed here sequentially and formed the Art & Culture Complex.

Cultural Gallery where orange-colored freedom hides

At night, the art museum itself becomes an artwork with its lights on. Starting with the Modern Museum of Art, Daejeon Art & Culture Center aims to be a specialty science city for media, to have exhibitions promoting digital artworks, and to study and exhibit foreign artworks through organic relationships. It is known as a complex culture gallery providing educational programs to help the public understand artwork.
For educational lectures for children, there are exhibitions held on-site. The online registration tends to fill up early for this program.

Containing beauty of the East and the West

Lee Ungno Museum

Ungno Lee Museum of Art was built to remember the artist, Goam Ungno Lee, who surpassed the east and the west, the traditional and modern, and explored values of life through artworks. The building was designed by a French architect, Laurent Beaudouin, and was inspired by a Letter Abstract of Goam Ungno Lee. It has a theme of ‘light and nature’ and displays the artistic world of the artist. It is a stylish harmony of western architecture and eastern Hanok (Korean traditional house). Beyond the cozy feeling of the building, it gives a deeper impression as the visitors look around.

Artworks of Goam Ungno Lee are mostly symbolic abstract and can be difficult for the public to understand. With explanations from a professional guide, it seems a bit easier to experience them. Without a professional appreciation of the work, it is enough to feel the artworks with your heart. The museum is impressive compared to any other art museums visited to date.

Beauty of waiting, the exciting moment before a concert

Following the same path from the Museum of Art, the Daejeon Art & Culture Center gets closer. The center itself is a park designed beautifully from inside to out. Visitors taking photos on the stairs look as excited as if they were at the Sydney Opera House. The relaxing moment of looking around the center before the night concert is its charm.
It is enough to stimulate sensibility, and satisfy the five senses of citizens by providing entertainment that used to be difficult to experience, with art and culture performances heavily focused in Seoul.
It is sweet to quench the thirst of modern citizens who want to enhance their quality of life by relaxing away from their busyness. In addition, the place stimulates the sensibility of children and is a precious gift. The place is always lively.
