The Boryeong Mud Festival has been selected as one of Asia's top three festivals. It was on par with China's Harbin International Ice-Snow World and Thailand's Songkran Water Festival.

According to the city, the Boryeong Mud Festival was selected as one of the top three Asian festivals by the World Festival Association and was certified as one of the top three Asian festivals at the International Ocean City Online Festival Forum held on the 25th.

The International Maritime City Online Festival Forum was attended by festival officials from five foreign countries, including Boryeong Mayor Kim Dong-il and Chung Kang-hwan, chairman of the Asia branch of the World Festival Association, at Daecheon Gymnasium. In the first part, an online international conference was held on the theme of festivals and marine tourism, and in the second part, an award ceremony was held on the selection of Asia's top three festivals.

The three major Asian festivals selected 17 candidates from the first round of 21 festivals held in seven Asian countries, and three festivals were finally selected, including the Boryeong Mud Festival, China's Harbin International Ice-Snow World, and Thailand's Songkran Water Festival.

Mayor Kim Dong-il said, "Our efforts, which have been challenging without fear of bold attempts to create original and new festivals, seem to have become a stepping stone for the Mud Festival to become a global festival." "We will also prepare steadily for the 2022 Boryeong Marine Mud Fair, which is a year away, to create a new marine tourism paradigm.“

Meanwhile, the Boryeong Mud Festival has been a representative summer festival for 24 years since 1998, and has been selected as the representative festival of Korea by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and has been established as a global festival for five consecutive years.
