The government has sent an additional 290,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine against COVID-19 to Vietnam, which is struggling to contain the pandemic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Seoul on Nov. 4 said a plane carrying 290,000 doses of the vaccine departed the day before for Vietnam from Incheon International Airport.

The government on Oct. 12 made its first vaccine donation to another country, namely 1.1 million doses of the AstraZeneca model to Vietnam and 470,000 to Thailand. Another million doses went to Iran on Oct. 25.

Approximately 156,000 ethnic Koreans and 9,000 Korean businesses are based in Vietnam, a core partner country under the New Southern Policy.

The ministry said it hopes that the latest vaccine donation contributes to global efforts to respond to COVID-19 and boosts friendly cooperation between Korea and Vietnam.
