Daejeon City announced on the 24th that it signed a business agreement with the Korea Meteorological Institute and Dong-gu to create a meteorological industry cluster at Daejeon City Hall.

Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung, Ahn Young-in, the Korea Meteorological Institute President, and Hwang In-ho, Mayor of Dong-gu District, attended the signing ceremony.

Under this agreement, the Korea Meteorological Institute will actively foster and support meteorological companies by creating a meteorological industry cluster centered on meteorological company growth support centers and manpower training centers in Daejeon Station Area.

In addition, more than 40% of employees will be relocated to the Dong-gu area by the end of 2023, and the creation of a weather cluster will be completed by the end of 2025.

Meanwhile, Daejeon City and Dong-gu plan to provide administrative support such as securing occupancy space and licensing to create a meteorological industry cluster and support the stable settlement of migrant employees.

Mayor Heo Tae-Jung said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude on behalf of Daejeon citizens to the Korea Meteorological Institute for deciding to relocate Daejeon, leaving behind a stable living base. We will spare all support for the Korea Meteorological Institute to successfully settle in Daejeon.“

Mayor Huh added, "Let's work closely with each other so that Daejeon can be reborn as a mecca for the meteorological industry.“

The Korea Meteorological Institute is a public institution under the Korea Meteorological Administration established to contribute to the economic development of the national industry by efficiently supporting the promotion and development of the meteorological industry and the use of meteorological information.

The relocation of public institutions is gaining momentum as the relocation of four public institutions, including the Korea Meteorological Administration and the Korea Meteorological Institute, was confirmed on October 27, replacing the relocation of Sejong by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
