TCIS' Mission aims to strive to cultivate internationally-minded learners who lead in purposeful change

Taejon Christian International School (TCIS-대전외국인학교) has a long history of excellence in international education in South Korea. TCIS, previously known as Taejon Foreign School and Korea Christian Academy, was founded in 1958 by U.S. Missionaries. The school has been accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the United States, and it was also certified by the Korean Ministry of Education in 1999. TCIS is the first school in Korea authorized by the IBO to offer the full IB program continuum to all levels in school. The total enrollment is about 400 students from over 20 nations. Graduates of TCIS are found worldwide, and many have distinguished themselves as Christian global leaders.

As the first Three Programme IB School in Korea, TCIS provides an excellent learning environment for students, focusing on developing high-quality, internationally-minded educational programs. They recognize and foster the development of each student’s unique personality, intellect, spiritual, and cultural identity. Using an engaging and effective inquiry-based approach, students learn to set goals, develop research skills, reflect, self-assess, and apply new understandings to real-life experiences. TCIS Service Education plans local, national, and international initiatives to develop the students; knowledge of the perspectives of other cultures, gain respect for their traditions, and ignite a passion for becoming caring global citizens. TCIS' Class of 2021 has successfully achieved a 100% pass rate with an average score of 37 for the DP Test.

Moreover, as an IB World school, they see technology as essential to student learning. The use of information and communication technologies (ICT) helps students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and communication skills. The use of current educational technology and teaching practices allow TCIS students to engage effectively and meaningfully with learning experiences.

TCIS has nearly 90 certified and experienced instructional faculty and residence staff. About 80% of the faculty and boarding staff are overseas hires from the United States, Canada, Australia, and other countries. Classrooms are kept small at TCIS, with an average size of 12 and a 7:1 student-teacher ratio, to ensure an intellectually stimulating and caring atmosphere in the education program.
