Daejeon City has announced on February 28th that it will hold an opening ceremony for the ‘Hydrogen Industry Life Cycle Product Safety Support Center’ (수소산업 전주기 제품 안전성 지원센터) at the International Science Business Belt Research Site in Shin-dong, Yuseong-gu to foster the hydrogen industry and secure safety.
The center was selected as a public offering project by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in November 2018 and secured a total project cost of KRW 28.5 billion (KRW 10.5 billion from the government, KRW 18.5 billion from the municipality) to join the Hydrogen Fusion Alliance, Daejeon Technopark, Korea Energy Research Institute, Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials. Construction was completed with the Institute of Standards and Science and Korea Gas Technology Corporation.
In August 2020, the Korea Gas Technology Corporation, a public company specializing in high-pressure gas, was selected as the commissioned operating organization through the Energy Review Committee.
The ‘Hydrogen Industry Life Cycle Product Safety Support Center’ is an open lab-type demonstration testing institute for testing and evaluation of the entire cycle from production, transportation, storage, and use of the hydrogen industry to the development of new products.
Located in the international scientific business belt base district, the center of the country, it has improved accessibility for companies using the center and has conducted performance and durability tests for all cycle products of the hydrogen industry, such as hydrogen charging, extraction, production, and mobility, in an ultra-high pressure environment of up to 120 MPa. It is equipped with 18 test equipment and 8 laboratories for evaluation.
Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, the four core projects such as hydrogen component safety evaluation, flow rate inspection, technology standardization project, and R&D project, as well as fault diagnosis dispatch service and hydrogen-related personnel training in connection with Korea Gas Technology Corporation’s high-pressure gas maintenance project, will be conducted.
In addition, by securing track records through testing and evaluation, the company plans to provide a basis for entering the market and provide the technical support necessary for the development and commercialization of hydrogen products.
