Baekryeon temple(백련사) is located at the upper stream of Gucheon-dong, in the middle of Mt. Deogyu in Jellolabukdo.

A Buddhist monk named Baekryeon built the original temple at this site when he saw white lotus flowers bloom.

This is where the Baekryeon temple was located during the reign of King Sinmun (681-691) of the Silla Kingdom. The original building was completely burned down during the Korean War and the present temple was rebuilt after 1962. This is the only temple that remains among fourteen temples of Gucheon-dong.

At this time of the year, the stunning Autumn colors are filled with the temple. If you are looking for the best spot for the Korean Autumn colors, the Baekryeon temple on Mt. Deogyu is a must.
