The lantern lighting ceremony lighting up Seoul Plaza is the 'Hwaeomsa Four Lions Three-Story Stone Pagoda' made from Korean paper using the national treasure Hwaeomsa Three-story Stone Pagoda as a prototype. It was made of Korean paper lanterns that made use of the bravery of the four lions that act as pillars of the stone pagoda.
This year, in particular, the three-story stone pagoda of Hwaeomsa Temple, which contains the story of the utmost filial piety about the mother of the Silla high priest Yeongsa, who founded Hwaeomsa on Mother's Day (May 8th) on Buddha's birthday, was produced. The lights will be lit from the lighting ceremony on this day until the 11th of next month.
On the other hand, lighting the lantern on the occasion of the Buddha's birthday is a unique tradition of Buddhism handed down from the time of the Buddha in the meaning of illuminating the wisdom of the heart and illuminating the world with the light of the Buddha's mercy.
