Daejeon City announced that it held the 50th Daejeon Citizens' Coming of Age Ceremony on the 2nd floor of the Daejeon City Health and Family Support Center on the 16th to commemorate Coming of Age Day.

The event, which marks its 50th anniversary this year, is designed to celebrate teenagers who turn 19 and establish their responsibilities, duties, and correct values as adults.

The event was attended by six young people who came of age this year. Along with them, the Director of Daejeon Education and Youth Division, together with the staff of a youth group (organization) that closely takes care of young people, celebrated the new start of the young people coming of age.

The traditional Coming-of-Age ceremony was held in the order of the Coming-of-Age costume ceremony (cigar, family, abstinence, family), family ceremony (drinking ritual), and Myeongjarye, Binsuhoon, and Hyunwoojon funeral. It was a meaningful time to reconsider the meaning of adulthood and strengthen one's mind as a mature adult.

Oh Hyun-Gyu (19 years old, male), a student who participated in the event, said, “It was great to be able to participate in a meaningful event where you can have a good experience, and I hope that the culture of holding the coming-of-age ceremony in a traditional way in Korea will be further spread.”

Baek Gye-Gyeong, Head of Daejeon Education and Youth Division, said, “Through this event, we hope that this event will help us to inherit our traditional culture and help the youth to become adults and to live as members of society in the future.”
