Cooperative Day is an anniversary designated by the International Cooperative Federation (ICA) in 1923 on the first Saturday of July every year to promote the concept of cooperatives and promote cooperative activities. It is celebrated by designating the day.
Hosted by Daejeon City and organized by the Future Hannam Innovation Institute and Hanbat Cooperative Federation, the event was attended by about 100 people including Daejeon Mayor Lee Jangwoo, Hannam University President Lee Kwangseop, Hanbat Co-operative Federation Chairman Oh Sejung, Daejeon Social Enterprises Association officials and general citizens. held in attendance.
At the ceremony, Kim Dong-Soo, chairman of Social Story Media, an excellent business model presenter, and Park Jong-Ryul, chairman of Moora Cooperative, who contributed to job creation as packaging director, were awarded certificates.
Next, Kim Young-Bae, chairman of Hana Remodel Cooperative, and Park Jeong-Yong, associate professor at Hannam Innovation Center were awarded commendations for their contribution to the local community through active support of cooperatives.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo, who attended the ceremony, said, "Co-operatives are an important means of realizing social values as an organization that pursues common interests, not individuals. Let's work together to revitalize and improve cooperatives."
Mayor Lee then said he was at the starting point of creating the "first-class economic city Daejeon," adding, "We ask all social and economic companies, including cooperatives, to join the process."
Following the commemorative ceremony, the participants visited the newly established cooperative business center on the first floor of Sewoori Hospital to celebrate the opening.
The Cooperative Business Center was established to promote and sell cooperative products, and from July 3 to November 30, 30 cooperatives and social enterprise products will be sold permanently.
Meanwhile, as of the end of June, 876 cooperatives are active in Daejeon, and the city of Daejeon enacted the Cooperative Support Ordinance in 2013 and is promoting various support projects to revitalize cooperatives.
