Daejeon visiting party including Heo Tae-jeong, the Mayor of Daejeon, who attended at the 6th General Assembly of UCLG held in Durban, South Africa, informed good news that Daejeon Metropolitan city is going to host the General Assembly of UCLG in 2022.  

The General Assembly of UCLG is joined by more than 1,000 municipalities and organizations from 140 countries and is considered the second-largest international organization after the United Nations.

It is the only internationally recognized organization by the United Nations, working for cooperation and common prosperity between members. 

The General Assembly of UCLG is a large-scale international event where these cities and organizations come together to hold a plenary session, workshops, town hall meetings and exhibitions for global problem solving and future prosperity.

This will not only reinforce friendly cooperation between cities and organizations but also greatly enhance the international status of host cities and induce economic effects. That’s why member countries always fiercely compete to host the next big event in their country.  

Daejeon has been proactive in close contact with the Governors Association of Korea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the UCLG Asia-Pacific to attract the UCLG General Assembly since last February.

In particular, delegates have been sent to South America, Asia, Africa, and Europe to attract the support of the Continental Secretary Generals.

By attracting the General Assembly of UCLG 2022, Daejeon Metropolitan city has an opportunity to improve its global urban dignity and prepare for a leap forward into one of the MICE and tourism hub cities in Korea. 

Mayor of Daejeon, Huh Tae-jeong suggested in his acceptance speech, “The General Assembly UCLG 2022 will draw a strong and united peace message to Daejeon and set a new milestone in the history.”, “The General Assembly of UCLG 2022 will discuss how to use technologies to make Daejeon city a safer and more livable place.” 

The 7th General Assembly of UCLG will be held in Daejeon Convention Center (DCC) and Daejeon International Exhibition Convention Center (DICC) for 5 days in October 2022. The city expects the economic ripple effect of about 5,000 people participating in the mega event, about 38.4 billion won of production inducement, and about 7.6 billion won of income inducing effect.
