The joint bidding committee for the 2027 Summer Universiade in Chungcheong Province (hereafter referred to as the"Committee") announced that an evaluation team consisting of the executive department of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) stayed in Korea for a six-day visit from August 26th has left on August 31st after finishing the inspection.
The committee arrived at Incheon International Airport on the 26th (Friday), visited Sejong on the 27th (Saturday), Asan and Daejeon on the 28th (Sunday), Cheongju on the 29th, and was impressed by the preparation status of the competition and the desire to host the competition.
During the evaluation period, the committee looked back on Chungcheong Province, where the competition will be held, explained supplementary measures for the last technical inspection, and further presented Chungcheong Province's ability to successfully host the 2027 World Universities Game Summer. In particular, he introduced South Korea's global companies in Chungcheong Province to the International Federation Evaluation Team, stressing that hosting the 2027 World Universities Game Summer could further enhance the economic growth engine and development potential of Chungcheong Province.
On the 26th, the Committee delivered the "One million signatures" containing the nation's aspirations to host the tournament in Chungcheong Province to the acting chairman of the International Federation, Leonz Eder. "I can't believe that we received 1 million signatures in such a short period of time," he said in astonishment, "I could feel the desire and enthusiasm of the Korean people to host the 2027 Summer World Championships."
On the 27th, the evaluation team of the International Federation visited the Sejong Local Government Center, which is used as the office of the competition's bid committee, and listened to the presentation on the overall bid. The committee explained why four cities and provinces in Chungcheong Province should host the 2027 World University Games and its strengths, including its vision and ideal facilities, infrastructure, game management plan and budget program (fiscal security) all according to International Federation's policy.
Afterward, he visited the Sejong Government Complex to examine the development of Sejong Special Self-Governing City, the central administrative city of Korea and visited Sejong Chungnam National University Hospital to inquire about the medical system in Chungcheong Province and the quarantine process in preparation for any COVID-19 situation.
By the 28th, the Chungcheong region's ability to hold successful competitions was comprehensively evaluated and concluded after examining Yi Sun-shin Gymnasium and Daejeon World Cup Stadium's overall facilities. In addition to the Gyeonggi facility, the committee visited the Hyundai Motor Asan plant along with the evaluation team to emphasize the fact that there are global companies recognized globally in the Chungcheong area.
In addition, on the 29th, the last day of the evaluation visit, they visited Cheongju University Seokwoo Culture Gymnasium, where the final basketball match will be held and looked around the game facilities and auxiliary facilities.
In a press conference held at the C&V Center in North Chungcheong Province, Leonz Eder, acting president of the International Federation, said, "The tournament should be held in a venue that speaks of university students' spirits. I think Chungcheong Province will be impeccable for the 2027 World Universities Game Summer."
"It's somewhat unfortunate that we could not confirm all the facilities, including the stadium, since they are not yet completed, but it is not an obstacle considering the enthusiastic support of the government, the region and citizens are making to host the event", he explained and showed gratitude to the committee for their efforts to assist the evaluation.
Kim Yoon-seok, secretary-general of the bidding committee, said, "We will do our very best to prepare for the preparation so that we can further promote the status of South Korea and Chungcheong to the world. We will persuade the executive members at the upcoming FISU General Assembly scheduled in November."
Meanwhile, the League of Nations panel will visit the opposing candidate city of North Carolina from the 17th to the 21st of next month.
The final decision of the city to host the 2027 Summer World University Games will be made by a vote of the executive committee members of the League of Nations in Brussels, Belgium, on November 12th .
