Taekwondo Day was designated by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on September 4, 1994, to commemorate the adoption of Taekwondo as an official sport for the Sydney Olympics.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Park Bo-gyoon, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) will join the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation, World Taekwondo Federation, Kukkiwon and the Korea Taekwondo Association at 11 a.m. on September 4th (Sunday).  The "2022 Taekwondo Day Ceremony" will be held under the theme of "Taekwondo rise again". In particular, the event will be held face-to-face, where Taekwondo enthusiasts gather in one place for the first time in three years. Taekwondo Day was designated as an anniversary to commemorate the International Olympic Committee (IOC) General Assembly Day on September 4, 1994, when Taekwondo was adopted as an official event at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in Australia.

This commemorative ceremony will begin with the performance of the Taekwondo Demonstration Team at Midong Elementary School, which illuminate the future of Taekwondo, previews of advertisements for the campaign to revitalize Taekwondo, screening of videos containing the voices of the people supporting Taekwondo, and awarding of the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award to 12 taekwondo veterans. After that, various events such as the National College Student Taekwondo Competition and the Taekwondo Culture Festival will take place.

In a commemorative speech delivered via video, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Bo-gyoon said, "Taekwondo has now become an evangelist to the global village of K-sports, which is fused with K-culture. Thank you to all Taekwondo practitioners who put their efforts and passion into the globalization of Taekwondo." He said, "The slogan of today's ceremony is 'Again, take flight, Taekwondo.' We will actively support our development.”
