First thing that pops into people’s mind during fall season is the colorful changes in leaves. This year’s first foliage will begin at Seoraksan Mountain on September 29. The peak foliage of the central region is expected during October 19-November 1, and the southern region during October 26-November 8.
Korean maple trees, which represent the color of fall, is unique in that the leaf lobes divide into eleven pieces from nine during the fall foliage.
Popular fall foliage attractions include Deoksugung Palace’s Stone Wall Path, famous for the yellow gingko leaves; Gyeongbokgung Palace, Yangjae Citizen's Forest, Myeongnyundang Lecture Hall of Sungkyunkwan University, Olympic Park, and Seoul Forest. Famous fall foliage attractions outside of Seoul include Hwadam Botanic Garden, Bukhansan National Park, Nami Island, and The Garden of Morning Calm. Mountains popular for beautiful fall foliage include Bobaljae Hill in Danyang, Oksunbong Peak in Jecheon, Jangtaesan Mountain in Daejeon, Seoraksan Mountain, Naejangsan Mountain, Odaesan Mountain, Sobaeksan Mountain and Hallasan Mountain.
