Hanok refers to houses built in the traditional Korean style. While tile-roofed and thatch-roofed hanoks were equally common, the former were typically noblemen residences while the latter were mostly houses of the commoners in the past. These days, most traditional hanok that are still used for housing have modern facilities installed within.

Gongju Hanok Village (traditional Korean Village) was built at 12 Tourist Complex Street (Woongjindong), Gongju City, Chungcheongnamdo. It was opened to catch the World Baekjae Exhibition in September 2010. It was built between Munyeong King’s Tomb(무령왕릉) and National Gongju Museum(공주 국립박물관)on a land of 31,310m2, where there are group accommodation (6 buildings with 37 rooms), individual accommodation (13 buildings with 23 rooms), additional facilities (4 auto campings, 9 outdoor kitchens, and 1 multi-purpose room), and shopping center.

It was built with a traditional floor heating system. In addition to this environmentally-friendly heating system, it was made of pine trees and Japanese cedar trees that are known as safe construction materials. This Hanok village is added with the convenience of modern technology. Gongju Hanok Village is well known as a destination for vacation for everyone; family, a group of students, etc.

You can also have the traditional cultural experience of the old Baekje Dynasty while staying there. A traditional Korean wedding ceremony (called ‘GaGaRye’, mostly held at aristocrat families) is reconstructed as a show for visitors/tourists, in accordance with Honrye-Holgi of ‘Garyegipram’ (organized by Dr. Youngbon Gu).

There are a number of accommodations as well as tracking courses for tourists near Gongju Hanok Village(공주 한옥마을).

Make unforgettable memories in Gongju Hanok Village(공주 한옥마을) where the present meets with tradition.

The doors and windows of Gongju Hanok Village are used indoors and outdoors by its traditional way, such as the strip of the outer door, the dragon for the window of the house.

The shady areas under the eaves are mainly used for drying corns or garlic for their seeds, while the herbs are stored.
Hanok Daecheong's eaves also served as refrigerators to keep food fresh. The small ornaments that decorate around the Hanok show the wisdom of Korean ancestors.
