Time magazine of the U.S. has named the K-pop girl group BLACKPINK "Entertainer of The Year" for 2022.
The magazine's website on Dec. 5 unveiled its list of the year's most influential figures in a range of sectors. BLACKPINK is the second Korean music act to receive the honor after BTS in 2020.
Calling the group a "trendsetting icon," Time said, "Blackpink has managed to become the biggest girl group in the world," adding, "The foursome released its highly anticipated second studio album, Born Pink, in September, which notched a record as the best-selling album by a Korean girl group, with over 2 million album sales."
"Normal as they may be, their 2022 has been anything but," the magazine said. The group appeared in August at the MTV Video Music Awards in the U.S., it added, and is on its latest "blockbuster" world tour" and "continues to dominate on YouTube, where Blackpink is the biggest musical act with over 83 million subscribers."
In 2019, Time named the group to its "Time 100 Next" list and nominated it in 2020 for "Person of the Year," an annual honor as the world's most influential figure. Since 2019, the magazine has named an Entertainer of the Year along with other honors from fields like sports or business.
