Man who Has Been Contributing To The Bright Future of Korea Tourism

Nowadays traveling is a big part of modern life, and through our trips, we manage to stop and smell the roses during our daily busy life. Tourism also contributes to the balanced development of regions as well as the peace between North Korea and South Korea. Besides, you can easily witness the signal that now is a heyday of tourism all over the world. 
In this period, when tourism is affecting the whole of life beyond the scope of the industry, the responsibility and role of tourism studies are bound to grow.

Prof. Chung Byung-woong(정병웅) is a representative tourism scholar who contributes to various activities in the whole tourism field. He has been teaching students as a professor of the tourism management department at Soon Chun Hyang University (순천향대학교)since 2001. Besides, he has been working as the 25th chairman of Tourism Sciences Society of Korea(TOSOK; 한국관광학회) since 2019. 

Prof. Chung Byung-woong(정병웅) has also served various social activities including serving as the president of Lee Soon Shin research institute (이순신 연구소) and also the president of the Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice of Cheonan-si and Asan-si(천안아산 경실련)

He took part in the Venice Carnival in 2019. Instead of wearing a typical Italian mask, he wore a Yangbantal (one of the traditional Korean masks), and he gained great popularity from the public.

Tourism Sciences Society of Korea(TOSOK;한국관광학회) was founded in 1972 and currently has more than 3,000 members. Journal of Tourism Sciences(관광학 연구), a research journal in the field of tourism, has been publishing ten issues throughout the year.  Since 2017, it has been designated as an excellent academic journal and also has been published in the international journal of Tourism Science by Taylor & Francis.

Tourism Sciences Society of Korea(TOSOK) has held annual academic conferences, continuous tourism policy forums, and various seminars as well as the publication of academic papers, which are the basis of the society. Through these activities, the discovery and education of theories that can lead Korea's tourism industry and policies are being conducted.
At the same time, they are trying to understand not only the general phenomenon of tourism that is getting more important in modern life, but also the understanding of universal tourists, and also leading the development of Korean tourism theory.

Tourism Sciences Society of Korea(TOSOK; 한국관광학회) plans to carry out various activities for 2020. 
In February 2020, the 87th International Conference by the Hospitality Management department will be held in Busan, and they are going to discuss a case study of Busan as a global tourism and MICE city.  The 88th International Tourism Conference will be held with the theme of coexistence and convergence in tourism, co-hosting in Daegu Metropolitan City and Gyeongbuk province from July 8 to 11, 2020. Besides, as a global event, an integrated academic conference on building the healthy tourism ecosystem will be held. Through this event, it is expected to discover tourism theories and policies suitable for the era of considerable growth of the tourism industry.  

Prof. Chung emphasized, "Tourism Sciences Society of Korea(TOSOK) will not only enhance excellence in the academic field but also make efforts to improve the social contributions and roles of tourism in various fields, including economic issues and job creation, as well as historical issues such as inter-Korean tourism."
