Seodaejeon High School celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The school has established itself as a prestigious institution in the region and its alumni are proud of its achievements.
In an interview with Kim Hyung Seop (김형섭), Chairman of the Seodaejeon High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation, he shared the story behind the foundation’s establishment. After a friend passed away and left him with the request to take care of his daughter, Mr. Kim decided to establish the foundation to help children of alumni study in better economic conditions.
To establish the foundation, 300 million won was needed as basic assets. Mr. Kim reached out to alumni for donations and thanks to their generosity, a significant amount was raised. Mr. Kim filled in the rest and in 2008, the Seodaejeon High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation was established.
Since its establishment, the foundation has awarded scholarships to new and current students who are children of alumni. A total of 1,329 students have received a total of 719,481,600 won scholarships.
Mr. Kim shared that it is rewarding to see students who have received scholarships go on to enter Korea’s top universities and grow into great Korean youths. The foundation has also been operating transparently for 15 years and has been benchmarked by other high schools.
In addition, he offered words of advice to students receiving scholarships, encouraging them to study with confidence and hope that the scholarships will be a help to those who are economically disadvantaged. He also expressed his hope that students will become prepared individuals who are ready to enter society.
Kim Hyung Seop is not only the Chairman of the Seodaejeon High School Alumni Scholarship Foundation but also runs a company that distributes movies. He previously served as the president of the Seo Daejeon High School Alumni Association and is proud of his alma mater’s achievements over the past 50 years.
