Mokwon University (President Lee Hee-hak - 이희학) and Paichai University (President Kim Wook - 김욱) have launched a joint promotion committee for global universities. Global universities are a project supported by the Ministry of Education, which designates 30 universities in non-capital regions that have put forward innovative strategies by 2026, providing 100 billion won per university for five years.
On May 22nd, Paichai University and Mokwon University held a ceremony to launch a joint promotion committee for global universities to promote the integration of university education and the promotion of global universities 30 at the Art Convention Hall of Paichai University’s International Exchange Center. The two universities have begun cooperation to build a model for the growth of universities and regions at the global level by leading innovation by breaking down walls between universities.
The two universities plan to carry out radical innovations in liberal arts, majors, industry-academic cooperation, lifelong education, etc. through the sharing of human and material resources. Mokwon University and Paichai University have established a joint innovation plan for a bold leap forward and have built an innovation execution system that can effectively and quickly promote it.
The joint innovation plan aims to reform academic structures and systems by breaking down walls between universities and innovating educational and research functions. In addition, Paichai University and Mokwon University aim to establish their position as competitive global universities and lifelong education universities based on bold innovation and solid partnerships, leading the growth of universities and regions together. The two universities plan to implement eight joint innovation plans, including the complete integration of liberal arts colleges and shared colleges, strengthening major partnerships, and implementing student immersion mega projects.
The Ministry of Education and the Global University Committee will announce 15 or so preliminary designated universities next month after receiving preliminary designation applications by the end of this month. Mokwon University and Paichai University have decided to submit their respective innovation plans by the end of this month, including joint innovation plans. The government plans to select 10 schools as global universities through evaluation and review in September and designate 30 schools as global universities by 2026.
Paichai University President Kim Wook said, “The time of uncertainty is also a time of opportunity,” expressing confidence that “if we combine the accumulated capabilities of both schools, we can realize the best university success model through the selection of global universities.”
Mokwon University President Lee Hee-hak said, “The goal of this cooperation is to lead the growth of universities and regions together based on solid partnerships between the two schools and strengthen global competitiveness,” adding that “we will do our best to make breaking down walls between schools promoted by both schools a good model for university innovation.”
At the launch ceremony of the Global University Joint Promotion Committee on this day, Lee Hee-hak, President of Mokwon University and co-chairman of the Joint Committee, and Kim Wook, President of Paichai University, signed a joint promotion plan for Global University 30. In addition, they exchanged letters of assurance stating that they would continue to promote joint innovation plans regardless of whether they were selected for the Global University project. The launch ceremony was attended by presidents of both universities, key officials, student representatives, representatives of faculty unions, Daejeon Lifelong Education Promotion Foundation, Daejeon Technopark Bio-Convergence Center, Daejeon Information Culture Industry Promotion Foundation, Daejeon Job Economy Promotion Foundation, Daejeon-Sejong-Chungnam Young Entrepreneurs Association officials.
