Join forces to promote the good influence of intellectual property is needed and move forward with the development and industrialization of convergence content

To promote a fusion of culture and arts with science and technology, approximately 80 scientists, artists, and social leaders from Daejeon gathered for their inaugural meeting and committed to spreading the positive impact of intellectual property.

G-Artians, which aspires to become Daejeon’s equivalent of the Davos Forum, held its first meeting on the afternoon of the 22nd at Edison Hall on the 5th floor of Whip Square, attracting attention to its future endeavors. G-Artians is a collective of scientists, inventors, cultural artists, experts, and businesspeople who aim to share their talents and knowledge to foster positive influence. The group seeks to achieve sustainable development and social contributions through cooperation and sharing among its members, with a target of 300 participants. During the 'Connecting Day' event, Professor Emeritus Kim Myung-seok of KAIST, honored as the ‘G Artist of the Month,’ and soprano Koh Hyun-joo delivered a lecture on ‘Homo Artistes’ and showcased their musical talents.

Although Daejeon is recognized as the science and technology capital of Korea, collaboration between research complexes, industry, and the local community has been slow, with artists often excluded from scientific and technological research and development. This meeting marks a significant step toward integrating science and art in the private sector. The initiative is expected to boost the development of cultural industries with direct artist involvement and is anticipated to be beneficial for cultural artists keen on accessing rapidly advancing technologies like artificial intelligence.

Professor Emeritus Kim Myung-seok of KAIST stated, “To develop cultural content that merges science and art and to nurture it as a cultural industry, it is essential to create research groups where artists, designers, engineers, and scientists collaborate.” He further emphasized the need for a strong foundation in cultural industry development to ensure ongoing content creation.

Soprano Koh Hyun-joo added, “For artists to develop innovative content, there must be more frequent meetings between artists and scientists.”

Kim Soo-woo, CEO of Wip Square, who established the G-Artians office, announced an unprecedented support plan for its members. To facilitate networking, seven halls at Wip Square, including a 200-seat multipurpose hall, will be available to members free of charge. Additionally, the initiative will support promotional marketing activities for artists and offer members free video autobiography production and shared office space.

Wip Square, located in Daejeon’s Daedeok-gu Knowledge Industry Center, is a multifaceted cultural space designed to support knowledge-based companies and their startups. It features a large event space suitable for conferences, performances, academic conferences, seminars, and other events.
