The founding ceremony of the World Economic Science City Association, an economic exchange platform for global science, technology and urban innovation will be held in Daejeon.

For two days from the 3rd to the 4th, Daejeon City plans to draw up specific visions such as inaugural events, panel discussions, and city representatives' meetings at the Daejeon Convention Center.

The event will be led by Daejeon City and will be joined by five foreign cities, including Montgomery County (Mayor Mark Elich), Germany's Dortmund (Director of International Relations Martin van der Leutten), Spain's Malaga (Vice Mayor Alicia Isquierdo) and Seattle (CEO of Economic Development Corporation Brian Surret). In addition, Taiwan's Shinju (Vice Mayor Kwon Sang-yuan) and Canada's Quebec City (CEO Damien Pereira) will attend as special guest cities.

About 300 people, including six representatives from overseas cities and industry, will gather at the inaugural ceremony to add meaning.

Moreover, KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung and Michel Landabaso Alvarez, head of the European Union Joint Research Center, will deliver keynote speeches and present topics, respectively, and will continue in-depth discussions on the role of the city union.

Co-hosted by the Daejeon Science Industry Promotion Agency, KAIST Technology Value Creation Institute, Korea Patent Strategy Development Institute, Chungnam National University, and Woosong University, the goal is to form a technology exchange network with overseas cities through forums and seminars.

Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo emphasized, "The founding of the Urban Alliance is a valuable opportunity to greatly help the city's innovation growth," adding, "We will contribute to the international community and share our vision for shared growth through solidarity and economic and scientific exchanges between member cities."
