The American version of the Korean reality TV music show "I Can See Your Voice" will debut next month.
CJ ENM, a Korean entertainment and retail company, on Aug. 28 said the U.S. broadcast network Fox on Sept. 23 will air the first episode of the program's edition Stateside.
Produced by Mnet, a cable channel of CJ ENM, the program features viewers and panelists trying to guess which participants are singing live and which are merely lip syncing. The job, age and singing skill of each contestant is kept secret, and the panelists try to discern the talented singers from the bad ones through facial expressions and other clues.
The show will be aired Wednesdays at the primetime slot of 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Korean American actor Ken Jeong will serve as the show's host and an executive producer. James McKinlay and Craig Plestis will be the other executive producers.
Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials at Fox Entertainment, said he hopes "I Can See Your Voice" will provide relief to viewers amid difficult times, calling it a "fantastic night of family entertainment."
CJ ENM has exported the show to eight countries including Malaysia, China, Germany and the Philippines, with the program enjoying wide popularity abroad. "I Can See Your Voice" will also be broadcast in Romania, the U.K. and the Netherlands to bring the total to 12 nations.
In 2016, the program was nominated for Best Non-scripted Entertainment Program at the International Emmy Awards.
In addition, Fox will continue to air "The Masked Singer," another music reality show imported from Korea, in which singing contestants hide their faces. This successful program's fourth season will start on Sept. 23 at 8 p.m. EST, an hour before the U.S. debut of "I Can See Your Voice."
