A tourism marketing strategy in the digital era and contactless lifestyle.

Namsangol Hanok Village will open “Standby, Standby, Standby, Communication,” an online spectator-participatory exhibition with online exhibitions and performances, from Dec. 6 – 31, 2020. As an exhibition that combines games with performances, it is expected to offer an interesting amusement and a digital cultural experience to audiences who are tired from staying at home.

The exhibition is based on the game, “Animal Crossing: New Horizons,” and takes place on the virtual “Namsangol” Island, which is based on Namsangol Hanok Village. In a time when the “contact-free” lifestyle has become the new norm, the game is gaining popularity as a window of communication with the world.

This exhibition will be held in collaboration with the art community, “Zerogram,” which is comprised of young artists attending university. Artists taking part in online performances as performers will meet spectators in a virtual space through virtual characters, and the performers and the audience invited to “Namsangol” Island will work together to escape from the island.

The exhibition will attract visitors to Namsangol Hanok Village through the representative digital media of the younger generation — games and online — during a time of social distancing and invite the audience to a space filled with new experiences and communication.

Furthermore, anyone wanting to take part in “Standby, Standby, Standby, Communication” can make a reservation online and directly participate with their personal gaming device. Those who do not have a gaming device can enjoy live performances online with the Namsangol Hanok Village YouTube at 4 PM on Sat, Dec. 5 and Sun, Dec. 6.

After the performance, starting on Dec. 6, a cyber-exhibition hall will open at “Namsangol” Island, and spectators who visit a certain address within the game can find commemorative photos of game participants and main scenes. Spectators can also visit each location on “Namsangol” Island, watch videos at main spots played by scanning the QR code, and receive goods (items).

More information about the exhibition can be found at the Namsangol Hanok Village website (www.hanokmaeul.or.kr) and the exhibition website (zerogram.cargo.site). An introduction of the project, performance videos and events will be available until Dec. 31, 2020, for spectators to enjoy the online exhibition without needing to access the game.
