The Seoul Metropolitan Government and two neighboring localities, Gyeonggi Province and Incheon, on December 21, announced an administrative decree that prohibits all private indoor and outdoor gatherings of more than 5 people starting from December 23 to January 3, 2021.

Accordingly, all private meetings such as class meetings, year-end parties, company parties, seminars, new house parties, cradle parties, longevity parties are prohibited during this period.

Weddings and funerals are not prohibited, but are only allowed to hold with a size of fewer than 50 people based on the order of social distance 2.5 being implemented. The city of Seoul will administratively sanction both business units and users in case of detecting violations.

Acting Seoul City Mayor Seo Jung-hyup at a press conference on the afternoon of December 21, emphasized that although the ban on the gathering of more than 5 people will cause many difficulties and inconveniences for people, if the trend of infection cannot be stopped, the current COVID-19, Seoul, will fall into the same situation as New York (USA), London (UK), where the streets are deserted because of the lockdown. He also urgently requested people to actively participate in pandemic prevention.
