Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung said on the 10th that he will participate in the 'Plastic Reduction GO! GO! Relay’ and ask for citizens' active participation and cooperation in implementing plastic reduction.
Recently, as the use of plastic has increased due to social distance and non-face-to-face consumption due to the prolonged COVID-19, concerns over environmental pollution have become so serious that it is called a plastic pandemic due to the paradox of convenience.
'Go! Go! Relay' is a campaign to appoint the next participant, promising one thing to do at the same time as what one should not do in life to reduce the use of plastic.
Starting with Environment Minister Cho Myoung-rae, K-water President Park Jae-hyun, the follow-up participant, asked Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung to participate. In response, Mayor Huh Tae-jung announced his promise to reduce plastic on social media and named the next three participants.
Mayor Huh Tae-jung promised in this campaign that he would use eco-bags instead of plastic bags when purchasing goods.
The next participants were Ko Kyung-gon, president of Daejeon Marketing Corporation, Yoon Soon-ki, chairman of the Daejeon Sustainable Development Council, and Moon Sung-ho, Representative of Daejeon Chungnam Green Alliance.
Mayor Huh Tae-jung said, "It is best to minimize the use of plastic because it takes more than 500 years for it to be completely dismantled," and added, "We ask for your cooperation so that plastic chosen due to convenience does not harm the environment and health."
Meanwhile, any Daejeon citizen can participate in the 'Plastic Reduction GO! GO! Challenge' relay, and post it on his SNS with a hashtag (#Non-plastic #Go Go Challenge #Plastic Reduction) along with the words of action to reduce plastic.
