Korea Grand Sale 2021 will be held online from Jan. 14 to Feb. 28 and hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Visit Korea Committee.
This annual extravaganza is one of Korea's leading events for shopping and tourism and designed to provide attractive tourism content and shopping benefits to foreign visitors during the tourism offseason in winter.
Over the sale period, an online shopping mall will offer discounts of up to 60% on a variety of items including those popular among tourists like beauty, food and K-pop products.
Major online shopping sites like Gmarket and 11st will run joint promotions, and shoppers can enter drawings to win tour packages in Korea.
Pre-purchase promotions for airline tickets, accommodation and cultural tours will offer early-bird rates and events for overseas flights to Korea, and major hotels will have up to 80% discounts and an additional 8% off.
Launched in 2011, the event will be held online for the first time this year to prevent the spread of COVID-19 under the goal of preserving global interest in Korea as a shopping destination.
The event will kick off with an online concert by the K-pop group Oh My Girl.
On opening day, a video featuring this year's festival with Korean American singer Eric Nam as the guide will be broadcast on YouTube and the cable TV channel tvN Asia during the festival period.
A social media campaign for non-Koreans dubbed "#Share_Your_Korea" will run for 46 days as well.
The Korean Culture and Information Service will jointly host an interactive cultural event for non-Korean influencers based in Korea to promote international interest in the country.
