'Minari' wins Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film
"Minari," a movie about a Korean immigrant family trying to settle in 1980s America, has won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the host of the awards, on Feb. 28 gave the honor to "Minari" at the 78th edition of the awards.
The ceremony was held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center in New York.
"Minari" director Lee Isaac Chung joined the ceremony via videoconferencing. "'Minari' is about a family trying to learn how to speak a language of its own," he said. "It goes deeper than any American language and any foreign language. It's a language of the heart."
"I hope we all learn how to speak this language of love to each other, especially this year."
"Minari" is the second straight work featuring Koreans to earn the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film after director Bong Joon-ho's "Parasite" last year.
The film is an American production directed by the Korean American Chung and produced by Plan B, an U.S. movie company founded by actor Brad Pitt. But it was put in the foreign-language category because of the association's rule that a work with at least 50% non-English dialogue be classified as such.
The other candidates for the honor were "Another Round" (Denmark), "La Llorona" (France-Guatemala), "The Life Ahead" (Italy) and "Two of Us" (U.S.-France).
