Pixar animated short shows Korean granny's love, sacrifice
With crimes targeting Asian Americans rising in the U.S., the U.S. animation company Pixar has released on YouTube a short cartoon showing a Korean grandmother's love for her grandson.
The company on Feb. 26 released via YouTube "Wind," which attracted more than 1,236,000 views five days after its release.
Written and directed by second-generation Korean American Edwin Wooyoung Chang, the short is about a boy who lives in a deep dark underground cave with his grandmother. He eventually escapes to the surface thanks to her sacrifice.
The pay streaming service Disney Plus had shown this work since December last year.
Also on Feb. 26, Pixar posted a message on its Facebook account saying it was "in solidarity with the Asian and Asian American communities against anti-Asian hate in all its forms," adding that it decided to make "Wind" widely available on YouTube "in celebration of what stories that feature Asian characters can do to promote inclusion everywhere."
"Wind" is available for viewing on YouTube.
