A big clock in Seoul is counting down the time until the opening of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) 2030 Summit, the largest diplomatic event to be held in Korea this year in about two months.

The summit's preparatory committee on March 22 set up the clock at Seoul Plaza to raise public awareness of and interest in the event.

This year's summit will be held from May 30-31 in Seoul.

P4G is a multilateral cooperative body designed to expedite green growth and 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) via cooperation among public and private organizations worldwide.

The biennial summit has 12 participating countries, including Korea.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that this is the year when the Paris Agreement, which was adopted in 2015 for countries to respond to climate change, will begin to see full-scale implementation.

This year's event is also significant as the first multilateral environmental summit to be held in Korea, it added.

In his New Year's address in January, President Moon Jae-in said that by hosting the second P4G Summit in May, Korea will "seek to spearhead international cooperation in overcoming the climate crisis."
