National Climbing School holds an opening ceremony of the artificial rock wall

The Korea Forest Service (Director Choi Byung-am) held the opening ceremony of the National Climbing School's artificial rock wall at the National Climbing School located in Nohak-dong, Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do on the 25th.

The artificial rock wall, which boasts the best facilities in Korea with international standards, was reflected in the budget for the hiking and leisure sector by lawmakers (Lee Yang-soo).

Since then, the design has been completed in November 2019 and construction has been completed in November 2020 starting with the groundbreaking ceremony in December, and plans to run various experience programs that can be used by ordinary citizens and sports climbers together by June.

The Artificial Rock Wall was constructed as a four-story building with a total floor area of 443 square meters by investing a total of 3 billion won on the site of the National Climbing School. Major facilities include international lead walls and speed walls, LED bouldering walls, and natural rock walls.

* Leadwall refers to the artificial rock wall that can climb the highest after wearing a seat belt, the speed wall that can compete with the fastest climb, and the bouldering wall refers to the artificial rock wall that can compete with many climbing paths without wearing a seat belt.

Originally, the opening ceremony was planned to be held along with the sports climbing competition, but the event was drastically reduced following the COVID-19 quarantine guidelines. It added significance to the demonstration of a national team player (Cha Yu-jin) in sports climbing.

Choi Byung-am, head of the Korea Forest Service, said, "The artificial rock wall at the foot of Mt. Seorak will become the center of mountain experience and education in Korea, which is popular not only among Sokcho citizens but also among people visiting Mt. Seorak and Sokcho.“
