BLACKPINK in April will become the first Asian act to headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, the largest outdoor music festival in North America.

The festival on Jan. 11 announced the lineup of this year's festival and confirmed that the K-pop girl group will perform as a headliner on April 15 and 22.

The group will thus make history again in its second appearance at the festival. In its first appearance in 2019, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to perform at the event.

Since its launch in 1999, Coachella has been held in Indio, Southern California, as one of the largest pop music festivals in the U.S. It attracts more than 200,00 visitors every year.

This year's event will start on April 14. The performances will be held on two occasions of three days each from Friday through Sunday from April 14-16 and 21-23 over a combined six days with the same cast. BLACKPINK will heat up the stage on April 15 and 22 in headlining the festival with Latin pop star Bad Bunny and American alternative R&B pioneer Frank Ocean.

The title of Coachella headliner goes exclusively to the most popular and promising pop stars. For example, Harry Styles and Billie Eilish were among the headliners in last year's festival, with others including world-class pop stars like Lady Gaga and Beyonce.

In July, BLACKPINK will also make history as the first K-pop act to headline the British Summer Time Hyde Park Festival, a leading music event in the U.K. Thus the quartet will be the first K-pop act to headline the largest music festivals in both the U.S. and U.K.
