Korea.net on May 20 launched a 24-hour YouTube channel for experiencing Korea anytime and anywhere and formally appointed its ninth class of Honorary Reporters who will promote Korea worldwide.

The ceremony to open a multichannel network (MCN) for promoting Korean culture and welcome the newest batch of Honorary Reporters was held at Korea.net's office in Seoul's Jongno-gu District. Korea.net is part of the Korean Culture of Information and Service (KOCIS), an affiliate of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Run by KOCIS to promote Korea around the world, the MCN comprises the channels Korea in the World, K-influencer and Korea Trend. Korea.net will also develop foreign experts who will produce and promote Korea-related content suitable for the network.

Held with a limited number of attendees amid the coronavirus pandemic, the event was held under the theme "Discover K-healing" to promote the use of Korean culture to heal people around the world during this difficult time.

The ceremony was broadcast live on Korea.net's YouTube channel, followed by the start of nonstop livestreaming of Korean cultural content such as K-pop, food, arts and travel.

Twelve of the 2,154 Honorary Reporters from 103 countries inducted attended the ceremony, where they received certificates of appointment and announced their upcoming activities.

First lady Kim Jung-sook in a video gave a congratulatory speech on the launch of the MCN and the induction of this year's Honorary Reporters. Her first involvement with Honorary Reporters came in last year's induction ceremony at Cheong Wa Dae.

She called the Honorary Reporters "messengers of hope," saying, "I was touched by your love and passion for Korea as I looked through the articles and photos posted on Korea.net."

"A single line in an article or a photo by an Honorary Reporter who promotes Korea has given courage and hope to people all over the world."

The K-pop boy band ATEEZ, promotional ambassadors for KOCIS for this year, also sent a congratulatory message in a video, citing Korea.net's Silver Button earned from YouTube for reaching 110,000 subscribers.

More than 2,000 viewers watched the ceremony in real time and posted comments on the chat room in languages such as English, Arabic, Japanese and Spanish. Many thanked Korea.net for creating a community of Korean culture lovers who work together, pledging to actively promote Korea worldwide with Honorary Reporters.
