Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung, who is on an overseas business trip to Europe, signed a business agreement with Emilia Sayz, Secretary-General of the World Secretariat* of Barcelona, Spain, at 10 p.m. on the 28th (local time) to promote the 2022 Daejeon UCLG General Assembly.
*World Secretariat: Promoting the role and status of local governments, and supporting networks between local governments.
The agreement is aimed at formalizing the online agreement on July 15 and includes cooperation to successfully host the UCLG General Assembly, selection of schedules and topics and programs for the UCLG General Assembly, and cooperation in promoting member city participation.
In particular, Daejeon City and the UCLG World Secretariat finally agreed on the competition schedule from October 10, 2022, to October 14, 2022.
Mayor Huh said, "As important matters have been agreed with today's agreement, let's work together to prepare for the Daejeon General Assembly with about a year left," and added, "We ask for active cooperation and support for the successful hosting of the UCLG General Assembly."
Mayor Huh Tae-jung then delivered a letter in collaboration with the World Secretariat inviting the North Korean Federation of Chosun Cities to open a new horizon for inter-Korean peace and world peace on the Korean Peninsula.
*Letter: Let's resume the peace exchange bridgehead at the local government level in inter-Korean relations, which has been cut off since 2018, through the Daejeon UCLG General Assembly next year and deliver a peace message at the general assembly.
Mayor Huh said, "The World Secretariat should actively cooperate in meetings with North Korea for inter-Korean peace and world peace, which are the core topics of the UCLG General Assembly.“
In addition, he said, "We are preparing hybrid meetings, Daejeon tracks, and special events for next year's general meeting, so please actively promote them so that many member cities can participate.“
In response, Secretary-General Emilia replied, "Next year's UCLG General Assembly will be very important to us, and we will actively promote promotional activities at various boards and meetings.“
Secretary-General Emilia said, "In addition to the official event of next year's general assembly, I know that there will be many resident programs and side events to learn about the culture and characteristics of Daejeon. In particular, we look forward to the environment, smart innovation, and peace track."
Finally, the event was wrapped up with a commemorative symbol depicting the logo of the 2022 Daejeon UCLG General Assembly delivered to Secretary-General Emilia and wishing for the success of next year's general assembly.
Meanwhile, the delegation will move to Morocco, the center of the Middle East and North Africa, and hold a meeting with UCLG President from November 1 to 3. Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung will meet with Casablanca Mayor Rabat to inform major projects and Daejeon City of the 2022 Daejeon UCLG General Assembly and attend next year's general meeting and hold a friendly city alliance.
