Daejeon City established 'the Daejeon Metropolitan City Integrated Support Center for Foreign Residents' to settle early in the community and support stable living for foreign residents and held an opening ceremony on the morning of the 18th.

The opening ceremony was held at 10 a.m. on the second floor of Hana Bank's Daejeon Station branch in Jeong-dong, with Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung, Daejeon City Council Chairman Kwon Joong-soon, CEO of Social Services Yumi, and members of the Foreigners' Participation Conference.

In particular, Yoon Soon-ki, general representative of Hana Bank's Chungcheong Sales Group, and Park Jung-ki, CEO of Foreign Love Clinic, cooperated to establish a one-stop service system for foreign residents through public-private partnerships last year, attended the meeting.

The Daejeon Metropolitan Government has selected and promoted the establishment of an integrated support center for foreign residents as a promising project with citizens of the 7th popular election to actively respond to the rapidly growing demand for welfare services for foreign residents in the region.

In connection with Hana Bank's Culture Bank project, the Integrated Support Center for Foreign Residents was established through free rental after remodeling Hana Bank's Daejeon Station branch.

The second floor will be operated as an office, lecture room, and free clinic, while the third floor will be operated as a lecture room, digital zone, counseling room, cooking stage, multicultural library, and rooftop will be operated as an outdoor shelter.

In addition to various support projects for foreign residents, such as basic life adjustment education for foreign residents and legal and life counseling, international exchanges such as private exchanges in various fields and exchanges with sister and friendship cooperation cities will be integrated.

The operation of the center will be operated by the Daejeon Metropolitan Social Service Center, which meets the purpose of the project and can operate the center stably in the early stages of its establishment.

Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung said. "Foreign residents are forced to suffer a lot of inconveniences due to language barriers, cultural differences, and lack of living infrastructure. By revitalizing the operation of the Integrated Support Center for Foreign Residents, we will continue to create an environment in which foreign residents can settle down in the local community through communication and exchange with local residents.“

The number of foreign residents in Daejeon was 34,148 as of November 1, 2019, 2.3% of the population in Daejeon. A total of 25,147 foreigners have stayed for a long time, including international students. China and Vietnam by country of origin, Yuseong-gu and Dong-gu by autonomous region, and 20 to 24 years old by age are the largest.
