The Daejeon Metropolitan Government held an inaugural general meeting to establish the 'Foundation Corporation 2022 Daejeon United Cities and Local Governments(UCLG) General Assembly Organizing Committee', a dedicated organization of the 2022 UCLG, at the City Hall meeting room on the morning of the 14th.
More than 11 key figures participated in the inaugural meeting, including Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung, Daejeon Chamber of Commerce Chairman Jung Tae-hee, Former Secretary-General of the World Federation of Scientific Cities Oh Deok-sung, TJB Daejeon Broadcasting President Lee Kwang-chuk, Hana Financial Group Vice Chairman Ham Young-joo, Hanwha Group Communications Committee Chairman Choi Sun-mok, Chairman of the Overseas Korean Business-Cooperative Kang Dea-hoon, and International Director of Daejeon Regional Bar Association Jang Dong-hwan.
At the meeting, participants appointed Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung as the chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 2022 UCLG and deliberated on 10 agendas, including the adoption of the purpose of establishment, corporate articles, and business plans.
In addition, participants discussed various ways to successfully host the 2022 UCLG and shared in-depth opinions on future general assembly events and the direction and tasks to be pursued by the Organizing Committee.
From now on, Daejeon City will quickly complete the establishment of the organizing committee by applying for permission to establish a corporation and registering a corporation. It also plans to dispatch officials from Daejeon to the secretariat to make full-fledged preparations for the 2022 UCLG.
Daejeon Mayor Huh Tae-jung said, "With the establishment of the 2022 UCLG General Assembly Organizing Committee, we can prepare for the systematic and full-fledged World General Assembly event." "We will do our best to make the World General Assembly event, which will be held around October next year, become an exemplary international event that will be held safely and grandly by overcoming COVID-19."
Meanwhile, the 2022 UCLG General Assembly is an international event held in Daejeon, near the Daejeon Convention Center, attended by city heads from more than 140 countries and key figures from international organizations such as the United Nations, UNESCO, and the United Nations Development Plan. It is the largest event since the Daejeon Expo in 1993.
