We have had a visit to the super ideal and romantic places to shelter from the late summer rains!

Independent Bookstore (독립 서점) has recently emerged as a new trend.

Sensory bookstores with distinct personalities are gaining popularity everywhere. The independent bookstore tour has become a trend because each bookstore has its own unique taste. In Daejeon, cultural charging stations in the alley are opening one by one with various themes.

The stigma of being a city of no fun is now over! Shall we go on a tour of independent bookstores?

"Wait, A Bookstore" (잠시,서점)

It opened in June. It serves as a neighborhood love room by conducting various programs for a short period of time. After reading and talking about a specific topic, I work on handicrafts and watch videos together. When you are hungry, you will have ramen tasting time and hold cultural performances and book concerts.

Like the bookstore concept of "a space where you can pause your steps and eyes for a while and get rest," it would be nice to get away from daily life for a while and focus entirely on yourself. With the pleasure of seeing the cute props that the owner showed his skills, he is stuck in the attic and looks at comic books as if he were a child.

CEO Lee Sang-eun (31) said, "We are running an end project with things that can be fun based on the contents and interests we usually have," adding, "The goal is to gather people who share their thoughts and stay together until the end, whether it is books or hobbies."

"This and That" Bookstore (서점 "이도저도")

Located on one side of the alley in Sinseong-dong, the tall bookcases of Idojeodo has science books on one side, and novels, essays, and picture books on the other side. Books are divided by author, so you can also collect books by your favorite author. There is a reserved book section at the top of the bookshelf, which serves as a friendly local bookstore by preparing books ordered by customers.

Warm lights, comfortable furniture, and coffee and herbal tea made by the owner at a small bar-shaped table at the entrance make you want to stay for a long time. Since its opening in October last year, it has been running a reading group. Meet twice and discuss autonomous books once and designated books once.

CEO Tae Byung-kwon (35) said, "I feel sorry for the situation of treating people as useless without exceptional ability, so I created a space where people with various thoughts can visit and read books and talk comfortably with social media such as Instagram and Facebook."

"Yellow Umbrella" Picture Book Cafe ("노란우산" 그림책 카페)

It is a picture book specialty bookstore and cafe surrounded by picture books full of bookstores. CEO Choi Jae-kyung, who came to Daejeon after working as the manager of Yellow Umbrella, a picture book cafe in Seoul, opened in 2018.

There are many new picture books not only in Korea but also abroad, so it is fun to compare picture books around the world. Since it is with a cafe, it is good to slowly fall into the kingdom of picture books while drinking tea.

"Bookstores are more of a space for selling books than cultural events," CEO Choi said, "The customers of picture bookstores are adults." It is a picture book for children, but the person who chooses and purchases is an adult, mainly a mother. CEO Choi pointed out, "The biggest problem is that parents buy whole books without reading them and put them in full bookshelf without knowing what kind of books they are," adding, "I feel sorry for the wrong perceptions of picture books."

For this reason, CEO Choi, who is increasing external lectures such as reading education, said, "We are operating on a reservation visit system, so please use text messages before visiting bookstores so that you do not miss them."
