British partner institutions, including the UK Regional Innovation Corporation, visited the Sejong Special Self-Governing City (acting mayor Ryu Im-Chul) on the 17th for a working-level discussion on international exchange and cooperation.

This visit was prepared to find ways to continue cooperation between the two cities after signing the letter of intent for collaboration between Sejong and Belfast on March 30.

Daejeon Sejong Research Institute, Daejeon Sejong Chungnam Support Group, Sejong Techno Park, and Sejong Center for Creative Economy and Innovation participated in the meeting including the city.

The city has signed a letter of intent for cooperation with Belfast, UK, and has been promoting exchanges in various fields for economic development and urban problems such as exchange of intelligent city status between Korean and English cities, promotion of small and medium-sized enterprises, and activation of bilateral trade.

On this day, Sejong City and participating organizations had time to share with UK partner organizations to introduce institutions to solve urban problems, discuss bilateral trade revitalization, and provide support for startups and startups in each city.

Dr. Amy Hochadel, head of the UK Regional Innovation Corporation and partner institutions, said, “Close exchanges between cities are necessary to accelerate urban research and innovation, promote bilateral trade, investment, and promote common economic prosperity.” "There is a need to strengthen cooperation by matching organizations with similar functions,” she added.

The city plans to promote practical exchanges such as the Korea-UK innovation twins project, fostering small and medium-sized enterprises, and advancing into overseas markets by reflecting the opinions of related organizations during the working-level discussions with UK partner organizations.

Lee Yong-Il, Ambassador for International Relations of Sejong City, said, “For the city's sustainable development, the two cities should make an effort to continue exchanges and cooperation in various fields in the long term.”
