On March 10th, the CNCITY Energy announced that they will be opening an exhibition titled 'Indong Writes History of 100 Years (인동100년: 역사가 되다)' on March 16th at the Heredium (헤레디움) in Daejeon, which was completed last year with joint sponsorship from Kye-Ryong Construction Industrial Co. Ltd (계룡건설).
This exhibition is arranged in the form of a historical archive exhibition to record the historical and spatial significance of the Daejeon branch of Dongyang Cheoksik Company (Oriental Development Company) (hereinafter referred to as 'Dongcheok'), which is located in the Heredium building. Dongcheok was a looting organization established by the Japanese colonial government to manage Manchuria and Joseon, and the area where the Daejeon branch of Dongcheok is located is the boundary of the area where Koreans gathered around in Indong, Daejeon, and where a public institution was established to protect the Japanese immigrants.
The Heredium exhibition, which records such local and historical uniqueness, is a significant first step for future progress. The exhibition consists of more than 200 photographic materials, allowing visitors to appreciate the significance of the archive. In particular, the records of the photographer who captured the restoration and conservation process are considered a highlight of this exhibition. The exhibition will continue until June 30th and will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. free of charge. The exhibition is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
The exhibition's opening on March 16th holds great significance as it marks the day of the Indong market's many cheering demonstrations, which were a large-scale movement in the Daejeon area. The opening day of the Heredium exhibition is the day that commemorates the Indong market cheering movement. Through remembering the painful history of Japanese looting and independent movements, the Heredium hopes to restore human dignity and promote peace through art.
The exhibition not only commemorates the cheering movement and Dongcheok's history, but also presents the story of the Dongcheok Daejeon branch's building and its 100-year history, architectural value, and restoration process. In particular, Professor Lee Sang-hee (이상희) (Industry Academic Cooperation Foundation Mokwon University - 목원대 산학협력단), who participated in the restoration and preservation of Heredium as a cultural heritage, stated that the opening of Heredium is "the fruit of private efforts to prepare for a new 100 years and preserve and educate as a cultural space that does not forget the past".
He also emphasized the significance of the archival exhibition, stating that "after restoring the original scale and appearance of cultural heritage, the exhibition provides an opportunity to look back at the past in the context of the historical confrontation between the anti-Japanese movement and colonial exploitation that accumulated over time in Indong and Dongcheok's Daejeon branch, and to create a hub space for future regional revitalization."
