On the 18th, the Korea Halal Certification Board announced that it signed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) with Indonesia's BPJPH during the 2nd H20 (Halal Summit) event held at the Jakarta International Expo (JIEXPO) Grand Ballroom, Kemayoran, Indonesia.

This event has been held from November 17 to 21, 2023, hosted by the Indonesian BPJPH (Halal Protection Agency). In the past, Indonesia used to host Halal certification work at MUI and directly certified overseas companies, but in October 2017, the Indonesian government opened BPJPH, taking charge of Halal work.

Accordingly, Halal certification of products distributed in Indonesia, starting with food and beverage products, will be mandatory from October 2024, Moreover, BPJPH also has been promoting mutual recognition work with overseas certification organizations.

In the meantime, domestic companies were facing difficulty exporting if they did not have MUI Halal certification to enter the Islamic market. However, sinc 2020, KHA Korea Halal Certification Agency (CEO Kim Won-sook) has been promoting a mutual recognition agreement with BPJPH to solve this problem. As a result, in October 2022, BPJPH Dr. Director Aqil Irham and many auditors visited Korea and completed an audit of KHA Korea Halal over 4 days.

Following cross-certification, on November 18, 2023, Indonesia (BPJPH) MRA (Mutual Recognition Agreement) resulted in Korean companies experiencing high costs, time difficulties, and various difficulties in various tasks, but now we have received KOREA HÀLAL certification from KHA Korea Halal Certification Institute. By receiving this certification, exporting is possible without additional certification from overseas.

At this event, our national organizations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Food Research Institute, Korean Embassy in Indonesia, Korea Agro-Fisheries Trade Corporation, and Korean companies doing business overseas participated and watched the MRA with interest and expectations, and gave out congratulations and encouragement for signing the MRA afterwards.

Nine certification agencies from six countries, including South Korea, the United States, Taiwan, Thailand, Chile, and New Zealand, signed the MRA during the H20 event. With this signature, many companies hope to enter Indonesia, and the KHA Korea Halal Certification Institute will hold a halal briefing session on Islamic countries such as Indonesia and Malaysia at the auditorium in early December.

KHA Korea Halal Certification Agency's MRA with Indonesia has marked as a major milestone for Korea, a non-Muslim country.
