On December 1, the Korea Water Resources Corporation CEO Yoon Seok-dae visited the Wonjucheon Dam (Wonju-si, Gangwon-do) project site, the first regional dam in Korea, scheduled for completion in 2024, and inspected the overall progress.

Wonju Stream Dam is a 1.8 million-ton flood defense facility under construction to prevent flood damage downstream of Wonju Stream. The local community continued to request the construction of a dam to solve problems in the Wonju Stream basin, where casualties and property damage occurred due to frequent heavy rains. The project began in earnest in 2014 and is scheduled for completion next year.

President Yoon Seok-dae expressed “As the frequency of water disasters increases due to climate change, the need and importance of flood control facilities to protect the people’s precious lives and property safely are increasing. We will do our best until the project is completed to carry out water management that the public can rest assured of”.

Meanwhile, before the on-site visit to Wonjucheon Dam, President Seok-Dae Yoon visited the Hoengseongwon Sovereignty Branch in Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon-do this morning and also looked at the overall management status, including preparations for winter risk situations at major facilities such as Hoengseong Dam and transmission purification plants.

CEO Yoon Seok-dae stated at the event, “As the winter season has begun in earnest and risk factors such as freezing and bursting of facilities due to cold waves and heavy snow are high, we will do our best to minimize public inconvenience through thorough management”.
