On the 6th, the opening ceremony of the 2023 Daejeon Design Festa was held at the auditorium on the first floor of the Daejeon Institute of Design Promotion (대전디자인진흥원). This is the largest design exhibition in the central region where you can see the present and future of Daejeon design together.
Hosted by the Daejeon Institute of Design Promotion and sponsored by Daejeon City, the event was organized as a venue to display the achievements of this year's Institute of Design Promotion project under the theme of "Design, Better Growth" and for design officials to exchange the future of the design industry such as design technology and trends.
The opening ceremony, which opened splendidly with Calibac's drawing show, was held in the order of a welcoming speech and congratulatory speech, commendation of merit in design development, award of the 32nd Daejeon Design Award winner, Park Jeong-so's special performance, and joint performance of staff.
In particular, the Kumdori Character Contest, which was held under a special theme, was an attempt to reinterpret the 30-year-old image of Kumdori by the image of Daejeon today and to attract civic sympathy. With more than 100 works submitted, it was enough to positively change the perception of Daejeon and increase the interest
In addition, under the theme of "Better ESG Design", "Green Summer Discovery Design Ideation", "Rediscovering What's Abandoned" and "Sharing My Green Summer Plan" were held as side events. During this, participating citizens suggested ideas and experienced activities for design and consumption for the environment.
Along with that, on the 7th, Kang Dea-hoon, CEO of Walkinto Korea, and Oh Sang-jin, a professor at Kyung Hee University, gave an in-depth lecture on the theme of "How Design Changes Our Lives".
Additionally, from the 6th to the 15th of December, more than 160 works, including winning entries in the contest and exhibitions on the business performance of the agency, IT-convergence exhibition, bio-healthcare exhibition, brand exhibition, CMF exhibition, and Kumdori Family (Kumdori House), will be on display at the Daejeon Institute of Design Promotion.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo expressed in a congratulatory speech the opening ceremony, "The role of design in improving the competitiveness of the urban environment, industry, and culture is increasing," adding, "The role of the agency armed with creative challenges and renovations is enormous for the future leap into Daejeon as a luxury city, and great cooperation between Daejeon City and the Daejeon Institute of Design Promotion is needed".
