Mayor Lee Jang-woo discussed major issues with North Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Yong-hwan and National Assembly member Park Duk-hyum as well as emphasis on cooperation between Daejeon and Chungcheongbuk-do, such as increasing the preliminary survey amount and revitalizing Daecheong Lake tourism

On the 11th, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo, North Chungcheong Governor Kim Yong-hwan, and National Assembly member Park Duk-hyum agreed at the Daejeon City Hall to extend the Daejeon-Okcheon metropolitan railway line to Yeongdong, North Chungcheong Province. This also meant they would make joint efforts to reflect it in the 5th National Railway Plan.

Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo stated, “There is always demand for railways, and they should be placed where the people need them. Above all, metropolitan railways should be tied to living areas, so I strongly support the extension of the metropolitan railway to Yeongdong.”

The Daejeon-Okcheon metropolitan railway plan is under detailed design by the National Railroad Authority. Daejeon City plans to add the Yeongdong extension to the basic plan and reflect it in the 5th national railway plan. The service has currently been ordered, and opinions from local governments will be collected and delivered to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in the first half of next year.

In response, North Chungcheong Province Governor Kim Young-hwan said, “Extension of the metropolitan railway is the long-awaited wish of the residents of the Yeongdong region. Chungcheongbuk-do and Daejeon must go together,” he said.

In addition to actively promoting the Daejeon-Okcheon metropolitan railway, the current issue of easing the existing preliminary feasibility study standard of 50 billion won to more than 100 billion won was also addressed.

In response, National Assembly member Park Duk-hyum said, “When looking at issues of prices and labor costs, there is a clear justification and persuasiveness to increase the preliminary survey by more than 100 billion won,” and expressed his intention to push ahead by saying, “Only if the preliminary survey standard is increased will local governments be able to breathe".

Cooperation between Daejeon and North Chungcheong Province is expected to begin on ways to utilize Daecheong Lake, which is classified as a water supply protection area.
