On the 6th, Mokwon University College of Music announced that it would hold the ‘2023 Handel Messiah’ at the Daejeon Arts Center Art Hall on the 12th at 7:30 pm.
Mokwon University's College of Music, which has the longest history in the central region, has continued to perform every year since staging Handel's (1685-1759) Messiah for the first time in Daejeon, a wasteland of classical music, in 1971.
Handel's Messiah is considered the greatest masterpiece among oratorios (religious music plays), contains 53 songs divided into three parts about the life and salvation of Jesus Christ.
Part 1 contained prophecy and the birth of the Savior, and Parts 2 and 3 respectively depicted the Passion, Atonement, Resurrection, and Eternal Life.
Handel's Messiah is evaluated as a great timeless masterpiece that breaks away from the religious specificity of church music.
This concert was conducted by Lee Un-bok, an alumnus of Mokwon University College of Music, and featured by renowned musicians such as soprano Cho Jeong-sun, alto Byeon Jeong-ran, tenor Seo Pil, and bassist Jeong Jang-ho.
The choir and orchestra, composed of students from the College of Music and alumni who are top vocalists, will also present perfect harmony.
President Lee Hee-hak said, “The deep emotion on a winter night was felt through the beautiful melodies delivered by members and alumni of the College of Music who have proven musical capabilities”.“Mokwon University will continue to prepare various performances to share high-quality music with citizens. I will do it,” he added.
