On the 14th, the 2027 Chungcheong FISU Summer World University Games Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Organizing Committee’) held the 2023 2nd General Meeting of Committee members at the Grand Ballroom of the Sejong Marriott Hotel.
This general meeting of committee members included the Chungcheong region (Daejeon, Sejong, North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong) governors, provincial and provincial chairs. With the participation of the city and provincial sports council presidents, the chairperson of the Korea University Sports Committee, the event was conducted in the order of reporting on the composition of the organizing committee, progress in preparing for the competition, and deliberation on major agenda items.
Major agenda items included revision of the Articles of Incorporation, including changes in the selection criteria for members and executives following the transition to a single chairperson system for efficient and stable operation of the Organizing Committee, and appointment of additional members of the Organizing Committee.
As the existing four city and provincial governors in the Chungcheong region changed from co-chairing to a single-chairperson system, the four provincial and provincial governors were appointed as honorary chairpersons after resigning as co-chairs. Vice-chairman Lee Chang-sub will lead the organizing committee as acting chairperson until the appointment of a single chairperson. Negotiations are underway with four city and provincial governors (former co-chairs) to appoint a single chairperson.
Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo, who served as the senior chairman among the four city and provincial governors' co-chairs, stated, “It seems like yesterday that we hosted the competition, but it has been a year since then. Although the preparation period for the competition was short, I would like to thank everyone who worked hard to make it successful". “There is no doubt that under the single chairperson system, in the future, the four cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region will work together under the chairperson to successfully host the competition.”
Meanwhile, the organizing committee will continue to keep in touch with domestic sports organizations, including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the four cities and provinces in the Chungcheong region, the International University Sports Federation (FISU), the Korea Sports Council, and the Korea University Sports Board (KUSB). We plan to systematically prepare all matters necessary for the competition and accelerate the successful hosting of the 2027 competition.
