The first clean day was held by Euneungjeong, Daejeon, with merchants and citizens as environmental cleanup activities in the surrounding commercial districts, and a food sharing service was also held to provide free lunch to the social class as the harmony event.
The Environmental Co-prosperity Forum (co-representatives Kang Seok-hwa and Oh Seung-geun) stated, "This event will develop into a national campaign, starting with Daejeon City as a leading green global eco-friendly city. With the start point at a top environmental city, we want to contribute to improving citizens with environmental awareness and create a better society."
More than 100 members of the community participated in this event. Furthermore, they will strive to create a clean first-class environmental city in Daejeon with local citizens from the area for regular campaign activities every month and appeal for more citizens to participate.
Kim Tae-ho, chairman of the Daejeon Eunhaeng-dong Shopping Street Merchants Association, expressed his thoughts, "I have been thinking a lot about the order and environment of our stores, and despite the efforts of the merchants' association, the problem continued. This has led to criticism and complaints from citizens and tourists. Recently, the number of visitors to Sung Sim Dang expressed concern about the current situation, which could negatively impress tourists with the dirty streets for tens of thousands of tourists from other regions on weekends. To improve this, we have successfully achieved a clean day through cooperation with the Daejeon Environmental Association and the Environmental Co-Prosperity Forum, and the response of merchants will also change for an active atmosphere."
